I bought a pair of these at DI for $12 (so, $6 each). They were scuffed and scratched and there was wood glue drops where the legs had been repaired. But they looked like good quality chairs. They just needed a little love! :)
I somehow managed to fit the 2 of them into my tiny car to bring them home. Then I sanded, primed, and painted them. Here's the after:
